TRAVEL PERMIT TO AFGHANISTAN

Afghans who (1) are citizens of Switzerland, (2) do NOT possess Afghan Passports and (3) Afghanistan is not indicated as their place of birth/origin in their passports, can obtain a Travel Permit Letter before traveling to Afghanistan. This Letter will replace the required visas to visit Afghanistan.

Checklist of requirements

Please read the following information and instructions carefully:

  • Appointment:  Can be obtained online here.
  • Visit In-person: A proof of Afghan identity is necessary. If the applicant does not hold identity documents from Afghanistan, they shall refer to the Embassy for an interview. Please bring along any documents and proof that can help with Identity verification during the interview.  
  • Required Documents:
       a) Travel Permit application. The applicant should complete the Travel Permit application form. It can be downloaded from here.
       b) Swiss Passport. A copy of applicant’s passport. The passport should, at least, have 6 months validity;
       c) Proof of Afghan Identity (Tazkira, former Passports, Birth Certificates, other valid legal documents)
       f) Registered Envelope. A Registered self-addressed return envelope should be part of the document package and sent to the Embassy. This envelope will be used to send back the Travel Permit Letter to the applicant.
  • Fee: The Travel Permit Letter has no cost. The Embassy will only charge a handling fee of 10 CHF, paid by Money Order to Post-Finance account “Section Consulaire de l’Ambassade de la R.I. d’Afghanistan en Suisse 1202 Geneve, CH34 0900 0000 1767 0802 3”. A money order in-payment slip can be obtained from the Embassy or any Swiss Post-office.
